Thus, he assists foreign and local law firms, multinational and local companies, investors, financial institutions, multilateral agencies, development finance institutions, donor-funded programmes, international development organizations and high net-worth individuals by providing strategic legal services grounded in business pragmatism and deep-rooted insight into Nigeria’s legal and regulatory environment.
As part of his broader legal career, he headed the Legal and Corporate Affairs departments of Eni SpA’s subsidiaries in Nigeria, and was also a Director on their Boards of Directors. Eni SpA, which has its global head office in Rome, Italy, is one of the world’s largest integrated energy companies, with operations in over 60 countries, work force of over 30,000 people, and multi-billion dollars market capitalization. Eni’s subsidiaries in Nigeria at the relevant time included Nigerian Agip Oil Company Ltd (NAOC); Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd (NAE); and Agip Energy & Natural Resources (Nigeria) Ltd (AENR). The companies engaged in a broad spectrum of oil/gas exploration, development and production activities through ownership of equity or participating interests in several joint ventures and production sharing contracts. NAOC also participated in independent power project (IPP) and LNG project.
Consequently, Ellis has multi-dimensional experience as a lawyer, based on his initial work as a Barrister and Solicitor in general law practice/court-room advocacy, his subsequent work for over 32 years as an in-house lawyer in the above-mentioned petroleum/energy multinational group, and his current work in legal consultancy, advisory and advocacy.
Deriving from the foregoing, Ellis has profound international practical expertise in handling complex legal, regulatory and commercial issues, having participated in advising on, negotiating, and resolving issues in numerous multi-million dollars transactions in respect of which he carried out various assignments in Africa, Europe, UK, USA and the Middle East.
